Discovery Den Small Talk Parent Resource

Parents of Preschoolers:

On average, the church will have 40 hours in a given year to impact the heart of a child considering vacations, sickness, and holidays.  The home, on the other hand, has on average 3,000 hours to impact the heart of a child.  We believe that what happens at home is as important, if not more important, than what happens on Sunday. We encourage you to intentionally spend time with your children discussing what they have learned each week. When the family and the church partner together, we maximize our influence in reaching the heart of the child resulting in life-change.

It is our desire that your children hear the same truths repeated throughout the week.  In Deuteronomy 6, Moses tells us to be intentional in transfering our faith to the next generation as we go about our daily lives.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.  Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

The Small Talk is a monthly summary of the key question, bottom line, memory verse, basic truth, Bible story references, and provides teachable moments for you to create a spiritual rhythm during four times of the day: Play Time, Bath Time, Cuddle Time and Car Time.
